Agnes van Wieren graduated from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and has been practicing as a lawyer for over 25 years. Early on in her career, she made the decision to specialize in Family Law. Since then she has mainly handled divorce cases and everything that comes along with that, like child- and spousal support, the division of assets, the explanation of prenuptial agreements, custody, and so on. She often acts as a lawyer for business owners (or their spouses), where the business aspects and the way to read the financial statements are very important and can be very complex. Agnes is a good negotiator, but litigates if necessary. She is also an experienced mediator and a certified member of the Mediators Federation Netherlands (vFAS), as well as a Collaborative Divorce Lawyer. Agnes is also often requested to give a second opinion.
Aside from her work as a divorce lawyer, Agnes also teaches Family Law for several specialization- and postgraduate organizations, attended by lawyers, judges, accountants, financial planners and such. She is co-author of the “Praktijkgids Scheidingsrecht (onderdeel Alimentatierekenen en de Ondernemer) and after being a deputy judge for the Court in Zutphen for thirteen years, she now is a deputy judge for the Court of Appeal in Amsterdam (family cases).
Aside from the legal, financial and fiscal consequences of the divorce, Agnes also pays much attention to the emotional and mental impact a divorce can have. Every case is unique. Personal regard and involvement are therefor very important in complex divorce cases.
Agnes is partner at BANNING and a certified member of the Mediators Federation Netherlands (vFAS), the Association of Collaborative Divorce Holland and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
